Thoughts on Painting

I am inspired by beauty in everyday life, in nature, gardens, in family and friends. For me painting and drawing offer opportunities to be fully present. Close observation of an ordinary moment allows study of form, color, light and shadow. Thought stills, time slows, and space is made for awe. I greatly admire the artists who came before me especially early Renaissance artists both Italian and Northern European. Their skills and techniques call me to learn and practice artistic traditions. For me this is a joyful and worthwhile endeavor.
